Brian James Platts

Posted

Brian James Platts was born Nov. 5, 1964. He passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16. He was laid to rest at sunset on Monday, Sept. 21, in Lyman. Brian was injured doing what he loved when his horse fell while team roping on Aug 21, 2014. Since the accident, he has been a prisoner in his own body, rendered totally helpless.  He has freed himself from his agony and moved on to ride again.

Brian was born in Evanston and grew up in Lyman, where he graduated from Lyman High School. He went on to Riverton Junior College and then University of Arizona in Tucson. He lived in Phoenix; St. George, Utah; and Fruitland, Idaho; and he returned  back to Lyman in 2012. He married Mitzi Bertram in 1994; they later divorced.

Brian trained racehorses for many years at Turf Paradise, Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Bay Meadows and Wyoming Downs. He later went on to be a farrier. At the time of his death he was employed with Pacific Power in Kemmerer.

Brian was halfback for the Lyman Eagles state champion football team in 1982. He earned second place in Wyoming state wrestling and lettered in Lyman Eagle basketball.

He is survived by his parents, Lamond and Delores Platts of Lyman; his daughters, Reanna Bertram (grandchild next spring) and Hannah Platts of Fruitland, Idaho; Roxie Sherwin (Bill); Vicki Platts of St. George, Utah; Joey Platts (Wendy) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Brad Platts of Lyman; Robert Platts (Kerry) of San Antonio, Texas; and 12 nieces and nephews. Chris Aimone of Mountain View, who held a special place in his heart, supported him and was there to hold his hand at the end.

We want to thank the many caretakers over the last six years, those who visited, donated to various charities, sent flowers, cards, prayers and traveled to join in his services.
