Bridger Valley varsity volleyball teams snag top 2 places at Cokeville tourney

Posted

BRIDGER VALLEY — Both Lyman and Mountain View volleyball teams are off to an excellent start following last weekend’s opening weekend.

Rating for the 3A west Southwest by WyoPrep has the Lyman Lady Eagles in the #1 spot based on their record of 5-0. Of course, these are non-conference games and the tally was posted at the Cokeville Invitational last week on Friday and Saturday. Mountain View is in second place with their 5-1 record, also posted in Cokeville. Pinedale is rated third with a 4-2, and Big Piney fourth with a 0-6.

When looking at the rest of the teams in 3A, Douglas and Lander are the only two teams, which posted a better record on their non-conference games last weekend. Both teams posted a 6-0 record.

Lyman and Mountain View went head-to-head against each other in the game for first place in this tournament with the Lady Eagles earning the top slot over the Lady Buffs in five sets – 25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-7.

“We had a very good weekend going undefeated and winning the Cookeville Invitational,” LHS head coach Brecia Hansen said Monday afternoon. “We were able to beat three Wyoming 4A schools, a Utah 5A school, an Idaho 3A and 3A Mountain View. My girls played tough throughout the weekend. The championship match was a dogfight, and Mountain View made it very, very tough on us.”

Teams at the tournament included host team Cokeville; Gillette; Green River; Star Valley; Lyman; Evanston; Mountain View; Grace, Idaho; Alta, Utah; Montpelier (Idaho) Bear Lake; and Randolph (Utah) Rich County.
