BV gymnasts competed closed year in Evanston and started New Year in competiton

EVANSTON — The High Uinta Gymnastics team (HUG) finished 2019 with several meets and have already began competing in 2020.

The next scheduled events for some of the gymnasts will be the former Gymnastics Olympian, Missy Marlowe’s Wasatch Open, on Jan. 17-19, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.

Bridger Valley gymnasts Ashley Martin and Marley Ramirez from the High Uinta Gymnastics (HUG) team competed in the Wacky, Tacky, Sweater Gymnastics Meet in Evanston last month.

They placed in the following events: Ashley Martin placed first in the uneven bars and floor events, second in the vault and third in the balance beam. She placed second all-around for all Platinum gymnasts.

Marley Ramirez placed fifth in the balance beam and floor, sixth in the vault and seventh in uneven bars. She placed fifth all-around for her age level in the Gold Division.

During this meet, teams participating included: Next Level Gymnastics (NLG) from Rivertion and Legacy Gymnastics from Rock Springs along with High Uinta Gymnastics. HUG took second place in the Xcel Bronze Division and first in the Gold/Platinum/Diamond Division.

Martin and Ramirez were also able to participate in the Utah National Association of Women’s Gymnastics Judges Cup Ca$sh Ba$h 2019 in Woods Cross, Utah on Dec. 14. Gymnasts were given individual critique cards on each event by the Judges and learned areas for improvement in their routines. There were teams from Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.

On Jan. 11, four gymnasts participated in the Frostbite Invitational in Evanston and their results were: Ashley Martin placed first in the vault, second in the uneven bars and floor event and third in the balance beam. She placed second all-around for her age level in the Platinum Division.

HUG took third, for both the Gold Division and Bronze division. They also, HUG also took took second in the Platinum Division.
