EVANSTON — Two felons who led Uinta County law enforcement officers on a chase
Deputies from the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office took Steven C Taylor (44 year old male of Thorton, Colo.) into custody after a two-day search of the area where he abandoned a stolen truck and trailer, according to a release from the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office.
This information was relayed to residents throughout Uinta County last Saturday, July 25, through the Red Alert Service.
Taylor had eluded law enforcement after Evanston Police tried to stop him near the carwash on Cheyenne Drive. A police pursuit involving Wyoming Highway Patrol, Evanston Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office ended when the transmission in the stolen vehicle went out and Taylor fled on foot into a heavily forested area off the Blacks Forks Sheep Lane in the area southwest of Meeks Cabin Dam. The Sheriff’s Office had deputies in the area searching and notifying residents since the night the suspect fled.
Last Saturday, the suspect was spotted by a sheepherder, who notified the Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was located with the help of area ranchers by UCSO deputies and taken into custody without incident.
Taylor has been booked into the Uinta County Detention Center on a Felony Warrant out of Colorado, burglary, felony eluding with property damage in excess of $10,000, unlawful use of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property.
During the afternoon hours of Friday July 24, the Evanston Police Department, according to the PDs report, responded to the report of a female occupying a camp trailer within Evanston city limits. The female was identified as Amanda Lynn Taylor (36-year-old female of Thorton, Colo.). She admitted to having previously been with Steven C. Taylor in the stolen vehicle in which he fled from the police. Amanda Taylor had exited the vehicle in Evanston, prior to Steven C. Taylor fleeing, and had been left in Evanston on Wednesday, July 22. Amanda was transported to the Uinta County Jail, where she was booked in for charges of burglary and property Destruction.
Uinta County Law Enforcement would like to remind everyone to keep vehicles, campers, residences and outbuildings secured and to not leave valuable items or firearms inside unattended vehicles.
