Commissioners award scholarships and look at alley issue in Fort Bridger

Posted

EVANSTON — The Uinta County Commission awarded three $500 scholarships at the June 4 meeting in Evanston.

In the Valley, Olivia Smith received the scholarship for Lyman with Najib Madbouhi named as the alternate. For Mountain View, Kaylee Gross was named the recipient, and Halley Bindl was named the alternate. Sierra Burleigh was named the recipient for Evanston, and Mikaela Williams was named as the alternate.

The commission also discussed two issues concerning the Cash Store in Fort Bridger. The business had requested to be able to use their liquor license for a 24- hour catering event on June 15. This was approved by the commission.

In addition, in the workshop section, the commission discussed the alley behind the Cash Store, which included some discussion on closing part of the alley. Homeowners with property on the south side of the alley had concerns on how this issue would affect their property, access to their property and the encroachment of noise and activity. The proposal is for the vacation of the alley to be north and south instead of east and west as the property was initially taken from adjacent landowners. The homeowner also told the Pioneer, due to the promotions of the business, they had built the high fence to provide them more privacy from both daytime and nighttime activities. The issue concerning the alley is to be taken up again at the commissioners’ meeting on June 18.

In other action on June 4, the commission authorized a contract with Choices Alcohol Drug and Behavioral Help Center, Inc. for $175,593 to provide counseling service in conjunction with the Adult Court Supervised Treatment Program, and approved a sub-contract with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) as the fiscal agent for the State of Wyoming Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drub Traffic program.
