EVANSTON — Jon Conrad of Mountain View has been welcomed as the Wyoming Economic Development Association’s (WEDA) newest board member.
WEDA was established in 1985 and is a nonprofit professional association representing nearly 200 economic development members and organizations who support economic development through their local groups.
Conrad was chosen to fill the term of a retiring board member and provides a voice from southwest Wyoming on the board. WEDA Board Chair Phil Christopherson had worked with Conrad in the past and suggested his name for the position. Conrad was interested, submitted his resume and was chosen.
“The ability to represent, recognize and call attention to Uinta County’s contribution to the State of Wyoming is greatly needed,” Conrad said. “I look forward to championing efforts to support and advocate for our local economic development and our citizens.”
Conrad currently serves on the Uinta County Economic Development Commission (UCEDC) and as the Chairman of the Wyoming Mining Association’s Regulatory Affairs Committee. He has been in Soda Ash manufacturing, holding various leadership positions for over 27 years. He is the recipient of the 2021 Wyoming Mining Association Peck Award for “outstanding voluntary community service.” Conrad is also vice chairman of the International Mining Association’s North America Environmental Affairs Committee.
Conrad also serves as Commander of VFW Post 7798 and as a Steering Committee Member for Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom, along with being a member of the Uinta County Suicide Prevention Task Force.
“I think Jon Conrad will do a fantastic job on WEDA. We haven’t had anyone from Uinta County on that board for a long time and it will be nice to have a local representative,” UCEDC Director Gary Welling said. “Jon will keep our commission apprised of the state’s efforts to help local economic development boards.”
WEDA’s mission is to provide leadership and support to foster economic development in Wyoming. WEDA provides education, tools, networking and advocacy for its members to help them better provide economic development in their communities across the state. This includes lobbying at the Wyoming legislature to ensure communities can access the resources they need to continue to be successful.
