Deputy Gregory named Lawman of the Year

Posted

EVANSTON — Uinta County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Gregory was named Lawman of the Year by the American Legion Medicine Butte Post No.41 in Evanston.

The award was bestowed on Gregory last week on Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Sheriff’s Office in Evanston. The award exemplifies Gregory’s work with the Uinta County Sheriff’s office, according to Uinta County Sheriff Doug Matthews. Matthews recommended Gregory for the award earlier this year and traced Gregory’s work through the department. Gregory, a Lyman resident, started working for the Sheriff’s Office in 2006, signing on first as a detention officer and then moving to a road position with patrol.

“I highly recommend Deputy Travis Gregory for this award, he is a very deserving recipient.” Matthews said in his recommendation to the American Legion. “Since the first of this year, he has taken on a new challenge, being assigned to Investigations.”

“Deputy Gregory cares about the public he serves and is especially familiar with the people in the Bridger Valley,” Matthews added. “This is ‘community policing’ at its core. Deputy Gregory recognizes that law enforcement is most effective when we partner with the community we serve. He is involved with his community and sets an example for others to follow.”
