Mora, Minn. — Dorthy Marie (DeWitt) Meyer, 79, the fifth child of a family of 10, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 24, at St. Clare Living Community of Mora, Minn.

Dorthy was born on July 2, 1938, in Red Lake Falls, Minn. To Leroy and Ruth Walker. She was a kind caring, loving and compassionate person, who was a giver not a receiver.

Her priority in life was, first and foremost, being a mother. She would open her home to family members in the time of need and provide them with housing and care. She was shy, but when you became a friend, you were a friend for life.

She used her talents to please many. As an outstanding cook and baker, she worked many years as a cook. Dorthy make the best pecan caramel rolls and cinnamon sticky buns. She loved using her hands to make doll clothes in her early years and later made quilts for everyone she knew and loved. She also enjoyed going to the casino.

Dorthy is survived by three children: Phil (Gayle) Dewitt, Lyman; Bob (Patti) DeWitt of Trappe, Md.; and Sheila (Tony) Layson, Mountain View. She will be fondly remembered by five grandchildren: Lori (Jerald) Munk, St. George, Utah; Jenny (Wade) Hughes, Mesquite, Nevada; Trent (Amanda) DeWitt, Mountain View; Tony (Mindy) Layson Jr., Laramie; Chuck (Sarah) Layson, Robertson; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is also remembered by five sisters: Alice (Dick) Srnsky, Elk River, Minn.; Elaine Huard, Belvidere, Ill.; Kitty (Ron) Keniston, Zimmerman, Minn.; Dolly (Ray) Siggeman, Lake Villa, Ill.; and Lois (Carl) Birdsong, Salinas, Calif.

Dorthy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A private service will be held on a beautiful summer day in wonderful Wyoming.
