Fallen Comrade Table/Missing Man Table

In memory of those who shall not be forgotten!

LYMAN — There is a Fallen Comrade Table on display in the lobby of Wells Fargo in Lyman in commemoration of Memorial Day.

The table is a small table set for one, and it is Wells Fargo’s way of symbolizing the missing members of the military, according to banker Sherri Bluemel. The missing are referred to as Fallen, POWs or MIAs.

The release noted people recognize the missing as grandparents, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews or friends.

The scene is rife with symbolism from the white tablecloth for purity of the intentions of the missing to respond to their country’s call to arms, a seating for one, symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner alone against their oppressors, to the red rose, slice of lemon, candle and salt on the bread plate. These things represent, respectively, the family and friends waiting for the return of the comrade, the bitter fate of the missing, the light of hope to illuminate the comrade’s way home and the countless fallen tears of families as they wait. The table has one chair, one chair which symbolizes the fallen and missing are no longer present
