CASPER — Six Wyoming professional truck drivers were named champions in their class at the 2019 Wyoming Professional Truck Driving Championships.
The event was held at the Wyoming Department of Transportation complex in Cheyenne, last Saturday, June 8.
Derek Gorrell, FedEx Freight, Fort Bridger, earned the high individual score for the written exam. Gorrell also was named the second place winner in the 4-axle van class.
Gorrell was on the team of the FedEx Freight, which also included Ken Rageth, Pine Bluffs, and Tim Vanfossen, Rock Springs. The team won the Team Trophy. Rageth also received the L.E. Meredith Award for the Highest Overall Score.
The competition included 19 professional drivers in a one-day competition which included a written exam, personal interview and re-trip inspections exercises, along with the driving competition. To be eligible for the competition, sponsored by the Wyoming Trucking Association Council of Safety Supervisors, drivers must be accident- free and employed by the same company for one year before the competition.
