USA Swim Club in Bridger Valley

Posted

BRIDGER VALLEY — High Altitude Swim Club, a USA Swim Club, is set to make a splash and field teams in Bridger Valley.

The first swim practice will be held at the swimming pool at Lyman High School, next Monday, June 1, from 5-7 p.m. Participants can also register for the club during this time.

USA Swim Club will include both Bridger Valley and Evanston, according to Mike Walk. He said practices will follow the 5-7 p.m. time frame, Monday through Saturday, at the LHS pool.

Walk said several youth have consistently participated with a team based in Sweetwater county, but the High Altitude will be based in Bridger Valley.

The club will include ages from eight to 18 for both boys and girls, which will then be divided into age groups. Stephen Powers will serve as the swim coach for Bridger Valley, Walk said. Powers will be assisted by Rebecca Weston.

Powers returns to Bridger Valley from Pullman, Wash.; where he helped build a strong USA program. Powers earned several state championships while attending Lyman High School before he went to college and swam for Adams State in Colorado.

Weston has been coaching USA swimming with the SWAT program in Sweetwater County, Walk said, and is also the Lyman High School coach.

The Evanston team will be coached by Sherri Busch. Busch is a long-time fixture with swimming in Evanston where she has coached for many years.

All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, Walk said. Up to 25 swimmers can be allowed in the pool at one time. As for meets, the starting date hasn’t been determined as of Wednesday afternoon. He said, the club has to wait for this information from USA. He estimated it will June or July before the swimmers will be in competition.

Those interested in participating in the USA swim teams can call Powers at 307-389-6620, Walk at 307-389-3745 or go to the pool to register at practice next Monday, June 1.
