Independence Day celebration in Valley Wednesday

“Home Town Heroes”

Posted

FORT BRIDGER — Communities are built on people willing to go the extra mile to make the community a thriving, quality place to live, a place to call home and raise their families.

Some don the uniforms of the U. S. military to help insure the freedoms early Americans fought so dearly for from stepping on America’s soil to the present. And these too, often return to their areas they call home to continue to help with building their communities. This year’s theme for the July 4 celebration, hosted by American Legion Post 36 in Fort Bridger is “Home Town Heroes,” according to Adjutant Anglecia Mecham, heroes who have both worn the uniform and those who have stayed at home to build the community.

In 1776, the United States was born when the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation, approved the Declaration of Independence. That is what Americans celebrate next Wednesday. The birth of the nation and the freedoms Americans received through this action.

Also, take a moment to remember the veterans who have contributed to keeping this country free. The Valley is rampant with veterans and Wyoming’s contribution, per population, is one of the highest in the nation. Take time from your busy lives to thank a veteran, or active military personnel, for their service to you, your family and your country.

The day starts early with the 5K color run for the Linda K. Woody Foundation for Union Wireless in the Mountain View Town Park. Check in is at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m.

Also on the dock for an early start is the line up for the annual parade in Fort Bridger, hosted by American Legion Post 36. Line up for the parade is 9 a.m. in front of the American Legion Hall. This facilitates the judging of the floats with the kick off of the parade at 11 a.m. This year’s grand marshal is the Benedict Family of Mountain View.

The day’s activities include the 9th annual Kids Xtreme Day at the Fort Bridger State Historic Site.

This year the Town of Mountain View will sponsor the Valley’s closing events, which kick off at 6 p.m. The evening will include food and fun. Topping off the night will be the fireworks show, beginning at dusk, lighting up the night sky.
