GILLETTE — “The Lyman Lady Eagle Swim team competed at the state meet in Gillette last weekend, bringing a spectacular finish to a fantastic season that won’t be seen again for a while,” according to parent volunteer Hal Busskohl.

Not only did the girls do well in the water, they earned top awards for their season.

Four of the Eagles took All-State honors. They included Harper Hewitt, Brynlee Busskohl, Brooklyn Busskohl and Samantha Weston. Both Busskohls also earned this honor 2018.

In addition to this honor, Lyman Junior Brynlee Busskohl shared the 3A 'Athlete of the Meet' honors with Lander sophomore Ashlon Kochand and Burns senior Emi Wagner.

The Lander Tigers won only three of the 12 events, but pulled through on their depth for a total of 274 points for first. Lander had four runner-up finishes and a total of 15 top-six placings.

Buffalo came in second place (206 points), while Lyman took third place (173 points). Busskohl in praising the team’s efforts said, “The team fought for third place as a team and brought home the state trophy.”

Brynlee Busskohl posted her own win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.59. She had set the Class 3A state record in the prelims with a 1:05.47. That broke her own record from 2018 by nearly two seconds. It was also the only state record to fall at this year's state championships.

The following was submitted by Hal Busskohl:

Lyman’s meet opened on finals Friday with a tough finish in the 200 IM relay. This team proved their #1 touting by a time of 1:53:36 setting another school record. This championship earned the four LHS swimmers their All-State awards.

Brynlee Busskohl successfully defended her state crown in the 100 breaststroke setting a new state record in the process with a 1:05:47 finish.

This also helped Busskohl in being voted Co-Swimmer of the state swim meet, something no Lady Eagle swimmer has held.

Kira Walk broke the school record in the 200 free final with a time of 2:07:86, while Samantha Weston scored 12th with a 2:15:21 in the consolation final.

Harper Hewitt placed 5th in the final of the 200 IM with a 2:26:49. Brynlee Busskohl sprinted to an All-State 2nd place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.44 swim.

Next to medal was Brooklyn Busskohl, who gathered 4th place with a 1:03:35 time. The next placing for Lyman was Kira Walk’s 5:42:70 school record finish in the 500 free. The fast paced 200 free sprint relay from Lyman couldn’t overcome Buffalo in the finals and walked away with second place in the state with a 1:43:65 and new school record.

Harper Hewitt captured 5th place, 1:05:78, in the 100 backstroke followed closely by Brooklyn Busskohl, 6th, 1:05:93;Samantha Weston scooped up 5th with 1:13:62 in the 100 breast.

The Eagles finished their meet with 400 free relay – Kaitlin Anson, Shelby Parkinson, Kira Walk and Ashlynn Condos – taking 7th place.
