EVANSTON — The Lady Eagles proved their mettle against eight Utah teams at the Border War Tournament in Evanston last weekend, racking up a record of 6-2.
“I have been very happy with my team’s play thus far. I lost all six starters due to graduation and we have all new faces on the varsity court this year,” head coach Brecia Hansen said Tuesday morning. “With that being said, my JV team was undefeated last year, and they are very used to playing together and to winning.”
Lyman’s overall record at this point in the season is 9-4. They head for another tournament play in Rawlins today and tomorrow. The Lady Eagles will go up against Buffalo today in the Rawlins tournament. They will hit the court in earnest next week as they go up against Big Piney and Pinedale on a march in which they hope to defend last year’s championship and try to lock in a new one for this year.
At this point, the Lady Eagles are at the top of the leader chart, rated the #1 team in the 3A southwest district.
“There will be some growing pains as we learn to play at a higher level,” Hansen added. “The upcoming Rawlins tournament will be a great check for us to see where we stand among all 3A teams in the state.”
Lyman was one of 17 teams to compete at the Evanston Border wars last week. Other Wyoming teams included Evanston, Cokeville, Rock Springs, Star Valley, Riverton, Rawlins, Natrona County and Pinedale.
Lyman lost two games last weekend, but they proved they will be a force on the court. The Lady Eagles lost in two to both Juan Diego, 24-26, 23-25, and to Uintah, 11-25, 22-25. A third game, against North Summit was played in three sets with the Lady Eagles taking the win, 25-17, 20-25, 15-10. The Lady Eagles also cornered the court in their other five games and beat Park City, 25-18, 27-25; Bonneville, 25-20, 25-22; Spanish Fork, 25-16, 25-15; Utah Military Academy, 25-1, 25-9; and South Summit, 25-19, 25-19.
