LHS track team claimed several firsts at Big Piney

BIG PINEY — The LHS track team competed at the Pete Olsen Memorial at Big Piney last week on Wednesday and took fifth out of seven teams.

LHS has fewer members than some of the other schools who competed at the meet, but individual athletes made good marks and earned points for the team.

Wyoming teams participating at the Pete Olsen included Big Piney, Pinedale, Jackson, Green River, Mountain View, Lyman and Farson-Eden, Big Piney aced their home meet and took first place with a score of 271.5 points. Mountain View took second. Farson fell to the bottom.

On Wednesday of this week, LHS hosted a track meet. Teams that participated in the meet included Lyman, Mountain View, Rock Springs, Green River, Evanston, Kemmerer and Farson-Eden. Results weren’t available at press time.

The power players for the Eagles had a good showing in Big Piney. In the discus, two throwers, along with a thrower from Mountain View, tied for second place. The two from Lyman included Alex Turner, a veteran thrower and a senior, and freshman Joseph Turner.

The Lady Eagles captured four first places. Challis Nebeker, junior, took first in the ladies pole vault with a height of 9-03.00 feet and put 10 points on the board for Lyman. Nebeker also raced in the 200 meter dash, taking fifth place with a time of 30.65.

The jumpers didn’t fare as well, but Morgan Douglass added to the Eagles points by taking eighth in the triple jump.
