Lyman Eagles upset MV Buffalos at game last Friday

Posted

LYMAN — The Mountain View Buffalos rolled into the LHS Eagle Lair last Friday, took a knocking and lost the game, 50-46.

The MVHS Buffalos have been slotted at the top of the 3A SW Quad all season, closely followed by Pinedale. The two go head-to-head tonight in the Buffalo Dome in Mountain View, while Lyman hosts Big Piney.

The MVHS Buffs also played Manila, Utah, last Saturday and notched another win by 10, 56-46.

In the 3A conference rankings in the coaches/media poll of WyoPreps, there was no movement in the rankings on the top. Defending champ Buffalo is now the unanimous #1 team. Despite losing at home to the Bison last week, Rawlins moves up to #2, mostly because #3 Lander lost last week at home vs. unranked Pinedale. Neither Lyman nor Mountain View is ranked this week

As for the top slot in the SW Quad, that didn’t matter last Friday night in the game with the LHS Eagles. The Eagles came to play and to win and were off running from the tipoff through the end of the game.

It was a hard game for both teams, but the Lyman Eagles dominated on their home court. The Buffalos struggled and had a poorer shooting percentage as the ball couldn’t find the rim.

LHS head coach Kevin Lueck said Tuesday afternoon, “We are very proud of our kids. We had a good week of practice in preparation for Mountain View, and the kids executed some adjustments we made. I was especially impressed with Andrew Houskeeper and how he handled Mountain View's defensive pressure.”

By the middle of the fourth, the Eagles led by 8. With 1:48 left in the fourth, the Buffs still trailed the Eagles by 4. MV Buff Colby Rees fouled out and LHS Eagle Houskeeper again stepped to the bonus line to add to his many points. He put in one-for-one and then back at the line for two-for-two. A 3-pointer by Walk added to the Buffs score, but as the clock wound down and 10.4 to the buzzer, the final score fell in the Eagle’s favor, 50-46. The Eagles earned their first conference win of the season

“The Mountain View kids are longer, stronger and faster than our kids, so we needed to value every possession,” Lueck said in reference to the game last Friday. “There is not a better coaching staff in the state than Mountain View's, so only a supreme effort from our kids enabled us to be successful.

The Buffalos, still #1 in the SW Quad, now have a conference record of 2-1 and an overall record of 10-8. They are closely followed by Pinedale with a conference record of 2-1 and an overall record of 11-7.
