CASPER — Two Lyman volleyball coaches have been tapped by the Wyoming Coaches Association as the best-of-the-best.
LHS head coach Brecia Hansen was named the 3A Volleyball Coach of the year, and her assistant Cortney Walker was named the 3A Assistant Volleyball Coach of the Year. Hansen also serves as a teacher for UCSD6.
Both ladies have worked hand-in-hand steering the Lyman Lady Eagles volleyball team to this year’s 3A state championship. Etching out 33 wins and no losses as they stepped up to the final rounds, the Lady Eagles earned their first state championship since 1994.
“We (Lyman volleyball team) had an awesome year, and I have great players,” Hansen said Tuesday. “Courtney and I are certainly very honored to receive such recognition.”
Hansen said this year was her sixth season coaching in Lyman. Prior to the move to Lyman, she was a head coach in Idaho for eight years. She added the team has qualified for state each of the six years she has coached in Lyman.
“Courtney has been my assistant all six years,” Hansen said. “Prior to being my assistant, she was the freshman coach for one year and coached at LIS for three years.”
