LYMAN — Brynlee Busskohl, a senior at Lyman High School (LHS) and Sweetwater Aquatics Team (SWAT) swimmer and has accepted ascholarship and verbally committed to swim Division 1, at San Diego State University.

Busskohl, a senior at Lyman High School,will swim under the direction of Mountain West Coach of the Year, Mike Schrader. The Aztecs are coming off of a Mountain West Championship team win, making them the best in this country.

Busskohl is Wyoming’s first non-basketball Division I commitment for the Class of 2021.

Busskohl was just spotlighted Sept. 23, at WyoPreps in an article by David Settle. Busskohl will also be featured in “Swim Swam” magazine. Last year WyoPreps also featured Busskohl following the state swim meet.

Busskohl is the current Class 3A record-holder in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke, 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke. The two-time state champ is seeking a three-peat in the 100-breaststroke at the state championships in Laramie in November.

Busskohl said of her commitment to the Aztecs program,

“I choose San Diego State because they are No. 1, both the team and coach. I look forward to competing at sea level, versus close to 7,000 feet at home, being near the ocean, and never having to worry about being snowed in or having a swim meet or practice canceled due to snow!”

Busskohl holds Lyman High School records in the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. She’s a member of two relay teams with school records, the 200 medley relay, and 200 freestyle relay. Busskohl also has multiple pool records across the state. She is a two-year state champion, looking to three-peat this November in Laramie at the state swim meet. She holds multiple pool records throughout the state as well. Busskohl has swam all four years in high school under the direction of head coach Rebecca Weston, 3A conference coach of the year in 2019.

In her USA season, Busskohl swims for SWAT in Green River and their coach Randy Walker. It’s a 50-mile commute one-way, sometimes five or six times a week but that hasn’t slowed down Busskohl. She’ll be looking to repeat as a USA state champion soon. Once her high school season is complete, Brynlee will be back on the road from Lyman to Green River and back again. Her day starts at 4:30 each of those mornings.

One of her short-term goals is to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

“I’d like to thank all my coaches who’ve worked with me over at Lyman Intermediate School, Lyman High School, and the Sweetwater Aquatics Team (SWAT) in Green River,” Busskohl said recently. “The camp coaches and staff at the University of Wyoming, Stanford University, and the University of Utah, friends, family, and teammates, and everyone who’s supported and encouraged me through the years.”

Busskohl also said, “A huge thanks to my recruitment team of Tom Johnson (TJ) of Rawlins and Randy Walker of Green River. Without their work and devotion, I wouldn’t have gotten such a good scholarship at the best swim school in the nation.”

Busskohl plans to study kinesiology at San Diego State. She wants to become an athletic trainer.
