GILLETTE – Ashley Martin, Bridger Valley gymnast, took the state meet by storm and earned the championship in the floor event.
The Wyoming State Gymnastics meet was held at the Campbell County Recreation Center in Gillette on March 18-21. There were 323 gymnasts competing in the three-day event, who came from 17 different gymnastic clubs around the state. Two Bridger Valley gymnasts with the Evanston based High Uinta Gymnastics team competed in the meet, with Ashley Martin becoming a State Champion. In the Platinum Division, senior Level, competing against gymnasts from five other gyms who had Platinum gymnasts, Martin placed first in the floor event. She also placed second in the vault and uneven bars and placed fifth in the balance beam. Martin also placed first in the all-around category for her division and age level.
She also qualified to attend the Platinum/Diamond Regional Gymnastics event to be held in Aurora, Colo.; April 29-May 1. She will represent the State of Wyoming along with the other 11 Platinum athletes who qualified. She will compete against other state qualifiers from Region 2 that consists of the best gymnasts from: Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington.
Marley Ramirez competed in the Gold Division and placed third in the vault, fifth in the balance beam, eighth in the floor and ninth in the uneven bars. She placed fifth all-around for her age level. Ramirez also qualified to attend the Regional Gymnastics event, along with 30 other Gold Division qualifiers to be held in Galveston, Texas; on May 5-8, against the best gymnasts from Region 2 states.
The next two events for the Bridger Valley gymnasts includes the Wyoming State Tumbling and Trampoline event, which will be held at the Evanston Recreation Center on March 27, and the Utah State Tumbling and Trampoline event which will be held in Layton, Utah on April 2-3.
