Mountain View FCCLA competed well at nationals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — High school students from Mountain View recently returned from the National Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Conference with smiles on their faces and medals around their necks.

The conference was held in Nashville, Tenn., July 2–6, and hosted FCCLA members from 47 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Despite the vast competition, Mountain View’s FCCLA team proved tough.

Caden Sweep, an incoming freshman, brought home a gold in National Programs in Action while upcoming junior Brook Kaiser also earned a gold in Chapter Review Display. Upcoming senior Machela Sweeney garnered a gold in her competition known as Illustrated Talk.

Recent MVHS graduate Landie Bird earned a silver in Career Investigation, and Kaytri Flint, an upcoming senior, brought home a bronze in Interpersonal Communications.

The group not only participated in various competitions, they had the opportunity to attend leadership trainings, workshops and general sessions where they listened to motivational speakers.

The trip wasn’t all business as the students got to do some sight-seeing.

“Apart from the convention we did lots of fun touristy activities,” said Adalene Thomas, upcoming senior. “We walked and shopped around downtown, toured the Grand Ole Opry and went to a Dan and Shay concert that was exclusively put on for FCCLA members.”

“We also did tours of Nashville, went to Nashville Shores and walked around Broadway,” said Flint.
