BRIDGER VALLEY — Shopko Hometown in Mountain View and if it was on the chopping block.

Mountain View, Green River and Worland stores all have an estimated last day of business on May 12. Estimated last day of business for the other Wyoming stores are: Greybull, March 2, Thermopolis, April 7 and Lander May 5.

As for the pharmacy at the Mountain View Shopko, according to Stacey Doak, Shopko Pharmacy manager, Monday morning, the Shopko Pharmacy was to close Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. She added, “Walgreens (Rock Springs) have bought all of our files.”

Doak said she wouldn’t be involved with the evolution of the pharmacy business in the area, but Bryce Habel was in the process of setting up a pharmacy so this type of business would continue in the Valley.

It was reported last week on Thursday on SweetwaterNow after the Pioneer’s press time, the Mountain View store is one of five in Wyoming on the chopping block. These stores are included in the closing of another 38 stores nationwide by Shopko.

Although the Shopko Hometown store in Mountain View isn’t slated for closure until May 12, the pharmacy was closed and shut down Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Pharmacist Bryce Habel said Monday afternoon, he was working out the details to open an independent pharmacy, which should open “around April.” Habel said the pharmacy would be in the Kunzler Dental building, on Highway 414 between Urie and Mountain View. Habel said he will rent a 900-square-foot space in the building to house the pharmacy. Although Walgreens bought some of the files, Habel said he wouldn’t be associated with Walgreens as the pharmacy would be an independent pharmacy.

Habel said the transition should be fairly smooth. Most of the prescriptions from the Shopko pharmacy had already been transferred to Walmart and Smiths in Evanston.

As was previously reported, Habel said he is also providing a service for local residents and will make some trips to Evanston to bring medicine to local residents who have had their prescriptions transferred. After the new pharmacy is opened on Highway 414, people will be able to have their prescriptions transferred back to the Valley so they will again have the local service.
