BOISE, Idaho — MVHS’ cross county team scored against a field of 295 elite teams at the Nike Cross Country Regional Championships in Boise, Idaho, last week.

This comes on top of the MVHS boys team taking the first state championship for the school and the girls placing well at the recent state meet.

On Monday afternoon, MVHS head coach Isaac Kiefer said, “The boys and girls teams both did a great job of competing against the best teams and individuals in the Northwest region. The best teams and individuals from Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Idaho and Hawaii were all featured in this race. In the boy's division, there were 713 competitors. Owen Burnett took 3rd place overall with a time of 16:19. Cash Henrie took 78th with a 17:35 and Dash Madsen took 120th with a 17:52. The boy's team finished 11th out of 76 teams.”

Kiefer noted Mountain View had taken only four girls to the meet, therefore, not earning a team score. He said there were 431 competitors in the In the girl's open division. Katie Giorgis took 12th overall with a time of 19:51. Caprice Winn took 27th with a 20:13, and Natalee Rudy took 49th with a 20:35.

This is the first time Mountain View has competed in this Nike Cross Country Regional Championships, which was ran on the Eagle Island XC Course. This is one of nine regional meets sponsored by Nike.

Kiefer said, “Very strong performances from the girls and boys teams with multiple personal bests. The boys and girls teams were highly competitive. We also got to sample great food in downtown Boise and catch the Pokes game! Very proud of the XC team all year round. They are great ambassadors of our town and school.
