MVHS Buffalos play for 1st in West today at home
Taking on Torrington, the Buffalos enter the battle with a no-loss season
MOUNTAIN VIEW — The MVHS Buffalos hosted the Wheatland Bulldogs last week in the quarter final post season game and sent the Bulldogs back to Wheatland with a loss, 41-6.
The teams had played earlier in Week 1 of the regular season, and the Buffalos had rolled over the Bulldogs in a similar manner sending them barking from the field in a 38-0 shutout. The MVHS Buffalos had entered the game as the #1 seed in the West while the Wheatland Bulldogs were the #4 seed of the East.
Prior to last week’s game, MVHS head coach Brent Walk said Mountain View was where they wanted to be at this point in the season, 9-0, following how the games had turned out all season. But, Walk added, “The season is behind us now…everyone has a chance to win.” He added “We want all of our team to be leaders. We have leaders in all classes.”
Mountain View had entered last week’s game with a 9-0 season and heads into this week’s quarter final game against the Torrington Blazers for first place in the 2A West. Torrington enters the fray against Mountain View having beaten the Cokeville Panthers last week by seven, 21-14, earning their fifth win in a row. The Panthers were eliminated from post-season action. The Blazers sport a 7-3 overall and 6-1 conference record.
Whatever the outcome of today’s game in Mountain View, Mountain View fans look to Mountain View taking the top spot, both teams are headed to the state tournament at War Memorial Stadium at the University of Wyoming next weekend.
As for the Buffalos game last week against the Bulldogs, Mountain View took the lead in the opening quarter of play on a 5-yard run for a touchdown by Justus Platts, and just like that it was 7-0, followed by a PAT.
Wheatland answered with a touchdown in the second quarter to trail by on, 7-6. After that, Mountain View's Carson Eardley took over. He returned the ensuing kick-off 95 yards for a touchdown to put the Buffs in front 14-6.
In the 3rd quarter, Eardley rambled 14 yards for a touchdown and that was followed by a pair of TD runs from Jayce Schultz so Mountain View was in command at 34-6. Eardley finished with a 32-yard fumble return for a touchdown as the Buffs got to 10-0 on the year. Mountain View will host Torrington in the semi-final round of the 2A playoffs today. Wheatland finished the season at 4-6.
