CASPER — With the regular season in the books, the Mountain View track and field team braved the bitter cold and blowing snow at the state meet in Casper this weekend.
Despite the frigid temperatures, the Mountain View girl’s team was able to score 71 points and bring home a state runner-up title while the boy’s placed a respectable fifth with a total of 57 points.
All schools fell to Star Valley in both the boys and girls competition, as Star Valley walked from the meet with first in both categories.
As for Mountain View, senior Hannah Behunin’s strong performance earned her three state titles. Behunin finished the 800-meter race with a time of 2:16, the 1600-meter race with a time of 5:15 and the 3200-meter race with a time of 11:37.
Marley Newton hurdled her way to a third place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.91 and also garnered a seventh place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.60.
Briggin Bluemel put up a fight in the hurdles as well. Bluemel finished third in the standings in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.64 and earned himself a state runner up title in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.53.
