MVHS Buffs bring home second place win from state track meet

Posted

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The Mountain View track teams have posted an excellent 2018 season. To top it off the Buffs brought home the second place from the state track meet. And the girls, with fewer in numbers at the state meet, also turned in some excellent results.

“Yes, the boys were runner up,” head coach Joel Giorgis said Monday. “They did very well. As a team, they competed relays, stepped up and bettered their time to place them higher then they were seeded. For the boys to beat a school like Cody is a huge accomplishment.” I know we are in the same classification but they have about three time more student then we do. “

For the Buffs, the team brought home two state championships. JD Anderson aced the shot with a throw for 49-05.50 feet, which was almost seven inches farther than his seed, and Mason Ozuna aced the triple jump with a distance of 43-00.50. Ozuna turned in a distance eight inches past his seed.

“The girls finished seven, which is not too bad with only nine girls at state,” Giorgis said. “The girls competed hard. Haylee Hereford was the standout in the girls team placing in all four of her events.”

“The weather was wet...and yes after three attempts, the vaulters had to finish inside. I am sure it affected kids, but it affected all they ones competing.”

In looking forward to next year, Giorgis said, “We are excited for next year already as three of the biggest schools are moving up in classification which will open doors for other schools. We will be returning a lot of kids from this year.”
