MVHS competed at the state indoor track meet recently

GILLETTE — The MVHS indoor track athletes competed last weekend at the state meet in Gillette finalizing their season.
The athletes capitalized on their early morning workouts with their accomplishments at the meet. Dedication on the part of the athletes. Early morning practices, something like 5:30/6 a.m. to get their practices in before the school opened for the day and other sports took over the evening hours.
The meet was held at the Campbell County Recreation Center Fieldhouse in Gillette, and played host to 31 teams are competing in two classifications, 3Aand 4A, at this year’s state championships. Mountain View was one of 21 3A teams at the state meet.
Mountain View tracksters had some excellent results and Owen Burnett brought home the championship in the 3200 with a time of 9:41.57 and 1600 with a time of 4:21. Burnett set new state 3A records and earned All State for these two races.
Other members of the boys team also achieved podium status. They included
Jaylee Antonino of the girls team earned three places at the state meet. They included 3rd place in the high jump, 4th place in the 400M and 3rd place in the 55 hurdles.
These tracksters won’t get much of a break if they compete in outdoor track and field, which most will as they will be back in practice as the first practice for the outdoor field season was Monday, March 6. The first competition day is Thursday, March 16.
