MVHS tackled hardwood at Flaming Gorge Classic

Harmon top 3-point lady shooter

GREEN RIVER — The Mountain View High School varsity basketball teams had mixed results at the Flaming Gorge Classic with the Lady Buffs notching three wins and the Buffs one.

Also on tap and earning accolades was Lady Buff Charity Harmon as she got first place out of the girls 3-point contest last Friday night.

The Lady Buffs, not as big in stature as some teams, are big in heart and desire. This propelled them to knock off three 4A teams during the 2-day tournament in Sweetwater. The tournament started on Thursday of last week and ran through Saturday. Teams competing at the tournament included Rock Springs, Green River, Lyman, Mountain View, Evanston Pinedale, Thunder Basin, Rawlins, Riverton and Jackson from Wyoming. Out-of-state teams included Bear Lake, Utah; Rich County, Utah; Ben Lomond, Utah; and two from Idaho, Grace and West Side.

The Lady Buffs first game on opening day of the tournament was against the 4A Riverton Lady Wolverines. The Lady Buffs controlled the floor and earned a 36-point edge, 62-26.

The MVHS Buffs suffered a 2-loss, 1-win tournament at the Classic. Their first game was against Bear Lake, Utah, and Bear Lake took the win by 17, 66-49. As they stepped on the hardwood last Friday, the Buffs went up against a second out-of-state team as they faced Grace, Idaho. The Buffs were pumping and put this game in the win column with a 12-point advantage, 73-61.

Back on the floor on Saturday, the Buffs faced a third out-of-state team. This time they went up against Rich County. It was close, but Rich County was able to get the upper hand and take the win, 55-50.
