MVHS hosts Lyman tonight

Posted

MOUNTAIN VIEW — All eyes of Bridger Valley basketball fans are trained on the hardwood tonight in the MVHS Buffalo Dome as Mountain View hosts Lyman in their first conference shoot-out of the season.

The two teams host each other during the season and gives each team the home-court advantage. Tonight is the first, and the second will be in the Lyman Lair on Feb. 27. Both games usually prove to be, or almost be, a standing-room crowd as fans flock to the games in which the two Valley high schools are pitted against each other. Proves to be a good time for all, but as with all contests, only one team can emerge from the games as the winner.

The Buffalos had two games scheduled last week. A home game against 2A Kemmerer on Friday, but the game was cancelled due to the weather. There are plans to reschedule the game. The weather also was the reason for the wrestling tournament in Kemmerer being cancelled. Reports were the roads north of Kemmerer were closed and none of the northern teams could make it to the tournament. And, due to the concern for the basketball team to travel to Mountain View, caution was taken and the game was cancelled. One Kemmerer resident reported it was a complete white-out in the Kemmerer area.

Mountain View’s varsity basketball teams did make it to Lander last Saturday, Feb. 8, to take on the teams of the Tigers of Lander High School. Both MVHS teams took it on the chin. The Buffs couldn’t pull out the win in a double-overtime and lost by five, 65-60 in a tough hard fought game.

In reference to the Buffalos game against the Lander Tigers, head coach Dustin Rees said Tuesday morning, “The Lander game was one the boys will remember for a long time. A double overtime loss on Lander's home floor really gives us confidence, moving forward. We feel like we could really make a run come tournament time. As for right now, our total focus is on Lyman.”

As for the #3 Lady Buffs game with the #2 Lady Tigers, the Lady Buffs suffered a 10-point loss, 61-51. The Lady Buffs had a fleeting one-point lead that soon went south in the first quarter. The Lady Tigers took over by one and continued to add more points than the Lady Buffs, capitalizing on this action to win the game.

Lady Buffs head coach Jessica Moretti couldn’t be reached before press time.

The Lady Tigers shot 49 percent in the game compared to the Lady Buffs at 36 percent. The Lady Tigers also out-rebounded the Lady Buffs 31 to 20 and hit 40 percent of their 3-point shots compared to 9 percent of the Lady Buffs.
