Wyoming rate improves for 8th consecutive year

CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) announced Wednesday that high school graduation rates increased to 82.4% in 2020-21, marking the eighth-consecutive year of improvement from the class of 2013, where 77.6.% of students graduated.

Both Uinta #4 and Uinta #6 are included in these school districts, in which 17 districts statewide were included in graduation rates of 90 percent or above. Uinta #4, Mountain View, posted a graduation rate of 92.5%, and Uinta #6, Lyman, posted a rate of 90.5 percent. Uinta #1, Evanston, did not make this grade.

Sheridan #3 and Washakie #2 both posted a 100% grad rate leading the state. Teton was close behind with a 97.6 percent, followed by Sublette #9 with 95.0% and Lincoln #1 with 94.7%. Uinta #4 came in as #11 and Uinta #6 in at #16. Weston #1 was the 17th school with a 90.2% graduation rate.

The WDE report said the department had calculated the graduation rates since the 2009-10 school year. The WDE uses the Federal Four-Year Adjusted Cohort Methodology established by the U.S. Department of Education, which complies with federal law that requires all states to calculate graduation rates the same way. Students are counted in the four-year, “on-time,” high school graduation rate if they earn a diploma by Sept. 15, following their cohort’s fourth year. Five-and six-year graduation rates are also calculated, and can be viewed with the rest of the graduation rate data.
