Valley basketball teams take some votes in recent poll

Posted

BRIDGER VALLEY — School sports are on hiatus this week as both schools are out for the Christmas break so there isn’t much action in the Valley or state.

Teams have worked to stay in condition as the need for peak performances will surface next week when school is back in session.

Little activity has produced little change, but their was some movement in the basketball WyoPreps Coaches and Media Boys poll finished just before the holiday break.

For the boys teams in 3A, Douglas captured the top slot for the second straight poll. The Bearcats earned 12 of the 14 votes for No. 1. Worland was second, while Buffalo moved up to third. The Bison were three points ahead of Rawlins, who fell to fourth. Lyman and Lander were tied for the second time in three rankings this season. This time the tie is for fifth place.

The third WyoPreps Coaches and Media girls basketball poll has 3-time defending champion Douglas taking over the top spot in 3A by three points in the voting. Both the Bearcats and the Lyman Eagles received nine first-place votes. The difference was one more second-place vote for Douglas. Lyman dropped one spot to second. The next three teams were the same with Mountain View in third, followed by Pinedale and Lander to round out the top five.

Mountain View and Lyman are slated to tournaments next week when the boys and girls varsity teams head to different tournaments. The guys are slated to tip the ball in Pinedale, and the Ladies are slated for a tournament in Rawlins. Both tournaments will play out on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8.

The regional basketball tournament for 3A and 4A is March 3-5. The 3A East is in Burns and the 3A West is in Powell.

The 3A and 4A state tournament will be held in Casper on March 10-12, at the Ford Wyoming Center and Casper College.
