Valley cowgirls and cowboys earn points in District 8 high school rodeo

LYMAN — It’s high school rodeo season and local cowboys and cowgirls are up and running as they compete in the arena and have competed at Grace and Pocatello in Idaho.

Of interest to Bridger Valley, DeEtte Powell of Lyman was named the queen for District 8, which includes schools from Wyoming, Utah and Idaho. Powell was also the district’s rodeo queen in 2019.

The Grace Idaho rodeo was April 26, and the rodeo in Pocatello was last weekend, April 30-May. The team will head to Montpelier, Idaho, this weekend, Afton next weekend and on May 20-22 for the District Finals in Grace. The cowboys and cowgirls amass points through the season.

High school results at Grace on the first go-around included, Powell took first in pole bending, 6th in barrel racing and seventh in the barrels. Addison Bowers, Lyman, took third in breakaway roping and 10th in the barrels.

Cason Barker, Fort Bridger, was the top cowhand in the high school calf roping at Grace.

In the second go-around in the Powell took third in the barrels and Bowers took seventh and also took third in breakaway roping. Bowers added more points to her score in goat tying where she took second. Powell again placed taking fourth ad took second in pole bending. Chanel Johnson, Mountain View took ninth in the barrels.

On the first day in Grace for the junior high, Kodale Powell, Lyman, took first in boys goat tying and in chute dogging. Tegann Powell, Lyman, took third place in boys goat tying.

McKinlee Covolo, Mountain View, took fourth in girls goat tying and fourth in poles. Covolo added more points to her score in poles as she took seventh. She also took sixth in girls breakaway and fourth in goat tying. Another Valley cowgirl, Annalene France, Lyman took sixth in both girls goat tying and barrels.

In the boys events on the second, Kodale Powell took first in both the boys goat tying and tiedown and second in chute dogging. Cal France, Lyman, took fifth in boys goat tying.

Last weekend in Pocatello on the first go around, Corbyn Maxfield, Lyman took fourth place in high school calf roping.

DeEtte Powell and Addison Bowers were both on the top edge with Powell taking second in goat tying and Bowers taking third. Powell again made points by taking second in pole bending. Powell also added points to her score by taking fourth in goat tying.

For the junior high, Annalene France took eighth place in barrels fifth in goat tying.. Kodale Powell took first in both the boys goat tying chute dogging. Cal France took seventh in boys goat tying. McKinlee Covolo took third in goat tying.

In the second go around, Tegann Powell took fourth in breakaway and third in goat tying. Kodale Powell took fifth in this event. Powell took second in chute dogging.

Annalene France too fifth in goat tying and third in poles. Covol also added points t her total in poles by taking fourth.
