Valley track teams posting marks and perfecting best marks

BRIDGER VALLEY — Two weeks, counting this week leaves two weeks left in the season before the MVHS and LHS track teams head to the regional meet at Kemmerer on May 13-14.

This will be followed by the state meet at Casper n May 20-22. Several of the athletes from both high schools have pre-qualified for the state meet. This doesn’t give them time to rest on their laurels, but edges them on to try to increase their marks and improve their personal bests.

Both teams got a look at the Kemmerer track and field a short time ago when the competed at the Kemmerer Invitational on April 25. This meet played host to athletes from seven schools going head-to-head. Both Valley teams did well. Two competitors were listed as having elite performances. For the boys, MVHS’ Connor Micheli was listed in the pole vault as he sailed over 14 feet. For the girls, Katy Dexter of Pinedale was spotlighted in the discus with a throw of 129-3 feet. The Eagles earned 12 first-place finishes at this meet between the boys and girls.

Mountain View hosted its invitational, the Jeff Hereford Memorial meet yesterday during publication day for the Pioneer. Results weren’t available for today’s paper.

As for track meets last week, both schools participated at the Mountain Man Invitational in Pinedale on Friday where 12 schools took on the action. The Pinedale girls won on their home track, and the Star Valley boys won the boys team title.

In addition, several of the MVHS tracksters competed at the massive Davis Invitational at Kaysville, Utah on Saturday. Evanston also competed at this meet.

Evanston's Kai Barker won the high jump at 6-7. Payton Vernon won the shot put at 56-03.

Mountain View's Katie Giorgis won the open division 300 hurdles.
