BRIDGER VALLEY — The first round of the high school winter sports season kicks off this weekend, and the high school teams will be hitting their mediums, hot-and heavy.

Basketball has a big following in the Valley and Lyman and Mountain View will host the Bridger Valley Basketball Invite. This is one of several tournaments scheduled for 3A competition this weekend. Other bouts are slated at Riverton, Gillette, Glenrock, Burns, Upton, Hanna or Encampment. The Bridger Valley tournament will also include the JV teams as both JV and varsity get a look at some of this year’s competition.

In the Valley, the girls JV teams are to hit the court today at 2:30 p.m. The will be followed by the boys JVs at 4 p.m. The varsity girls are slated for 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys varsity teams at 7 p.m. Saturday’s times will depend on how the teams do on the hardcourt today. The championship game for the girls varsity team will be played tomorrow at the MVHS gym at 6:30. It will follow the girls JV championship game, which will be in the same gym at 5 p.m.

As for the Bridger Valley Invitational, the boys JV championship game will be played at LHS Eagle Lair at 2 p.m. It will be followed by the boys varsity championship game at 3:30 p.m.

As for the Valley’s mat-men, both Lyman and Mountain View are slated to compete this weekend at the Evanston Invitational. It will provide an ample test of the wrestlers power on the mat as Valley grapplers face up to competitors across the classification lines.

The LHS Eagle swimmers will hit the water today in Laramie at the Relays. The Laramie Relays include the host team and Cheyenne East, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne South, Sheridan, Kelly Walsh, Rock Springs, Green River and Lyman.

Lyman will also compete in the Laramie Pentathlon tomorrow against a solid slate of teams. They are Laramie, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne South, Sheridan, Kelly Walsh, Natrona, Rock Springs, Green River.
