The contest is a wonderful time to compete in horse riding skills, social skills, personality and appearance, according to Deanne Harris, queen contest member.

This is the sixth year for the queen contest for the July 24 rodeos and the 20th year of the ranch rodeo.

They were on hand to reign over the Jr. rodeo Wednesday and will ride in the parade tomorrow in Lyman. In addition, they will reign over the rodeos today and tomorrow. Today’s rodeo starts at 6 p.m. The final rodeo tomorrow starts at 7 p.m.

“It takes a lot of work and time to get your horse in shape and develop the girls’ talents, also,” Harris said. “A queen contest develops more than just looking pretty. The contest challenges the girls to look adults in the eyes and answer impromptu questions about themselves, their horse and equipment.
