LYMAN — The Uinta 6 school board received two awards at the Wyoming School Boards Association State Conference, according to District Superintendent Damien Smith.

This year’s annual statewide conference was held Nov. 17-19, in Casper.

The first award the district board received is the Standard of Excellence Award. It is received when the majority of the board has received or is eligible to receive the Certified Master Board Member Award.

The second award the board received is a Certificate of Recognition. This is given to districts for their dedication to educational growth and all board members have 25 or more Board Certification Points.

Damien Smith, UCD6 Superintendent, explained Tuesday what the awards mean to the district and how he appreciates the district’s personnel for their work and dedication to making the lives and education of the district’s students top notch.

“In our school district, we are privileged to have a team of dedicated teachers and staff who embody the spirit of real-life heroes,” Smith said. “Their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts play a pivotal role in shaping the educational journey of our students, fostering an environment where learning and growth thrive.”

He added, the success of the district is also dependent on the community effort of local families and their impact on their children.

“Our community's success isn't just about us—it's a team effort, and our parents are a crucial part of that team. They're all in when it comes to valuing education.” Smith said. “Their active involvement and partnership with us is making a huge impact on the well-being and progress of our students.”

Smith noted the students grow and develop through the commitment of everyone involved as they move through classes, kindergarten and on through high school. He said the students utilize the opportunities offered by the district.

“At the heart of our educational mission are the students themselves. Their aspirations, dreams and pursuit of success drive our collective purpose,” Smith said, “We are dedicated to providing an environment that nurtures their potential, encourages curiosity, and equips them with the skills and knowledge needed for a bright future.

“In this collaborative effort, we celebrate the synergy between our exceptional educators, supportive parents and ambitious students. Together, we strive to create a dynamic learning community where each individual is inspired to excel, and the pursuit of knowledge becomes a shared and meaningful journey,” Smith added.

In addition, to those in the system, Smith noted the school board has a definite part in making everything gel to the point the students accomplish their goals and move on into the bigger world as they move on to other stages of their lives.

“Our school board is on a mission to open doors and create avenues for student success across the board. From education to career and technical education (CTE), from engaging activities to competitive athletics, our focus is on providing diverse and meaningful opportunities,” Smith said. “We believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals, ensuring that every student has the chance to explore, learn and excel in various aspects of their academic and personal journey. Through this commitment, we aim to empower our students to thrive not only in the classroom but also in their chosen paths, be it in the workforce, creative endeavors or the athletic arena,” Smith said.
