Guilds hold reunion at Piedmont

Family has been having annual celebration since 1957

On Aug. 9, the family of George T. and Anna Guild began gathering from Wyoming, Utah and California for their annual reunion at the family picnic grounds on the Guild Ranch at Piedmont.

The committee, consisting of Lee and Margaret Guild’s available grandchildren and spouses, started Saturday morning by handing out special reunion T-shirts. A pancake breakfast was served, and visiting and reminiscing commenced in earnest. Each household updated their family information for the family history book, which goes back to the first reunion in 1957.

Everyone was asked to take Polaroid pictures of their family and add them to the Guild Family Tree painted on one wall of the picnic pavilion. By the end of the day, the tree was covered.

Grilled chicken, pasta with three sauces — the colors of the Italian flag — in remembrance of family matriarch, Marie Cardon Guild, who named Piedmont in 1868, was served by the committee and their children. The rest of the family contributed sides and desserts. Afterward, a short business meeting was conducted.

There were 78 family members attending. Kelly and Dixie Guild family will be in charge next year.

Favorite reunion activities continued throughout the day, like climbing the White Hill, tomahawk throwing and volleyball. Many remember when Uncle Delmar Dean held gunny sack and three-legged races and they were brought back again with lots of fun and laughter. A big favorite with the kids this year was the crawdad competition. The day ended with root beer floats provided by Lois Christiansen and Jody Guild and lots of promises to return next year.

The committee would like to thank Earl Guild and all our Guild ranch families for their continued, above and beyond help and support of the reunion year after year.
