CASPER — Fans from around the state voted in the WyoPreps ‘for fun’ state basketball tournament and chose who they thought would grab the titles if the 3A-4A state basketball tournament played out on the hardwood.
Although WyoPreps noted with the votes of the fans, no champions will be crowned and no trophies or medals will be given out. The vote was done in fun and was a small way to add closure to the lost season.
WyoPreps used three days in which fans could vote on how they thought the tournaments would have ended.
For the Class A girls title game, the Lander Lady Tigers was voted as the team which would have taken the title with a 50.28 percent of the vote, edging out the Douglas Lady Bearcats at 49.72.
The girls teams from both of the Valley high schools had been a power throughout the season and would have hit the hardwood at the state tournament in Casper as the #1 and #2 seeds with the MVHS Lady Buffs in the #1 spot. The vote by fans had the Lady Buffs and the LHS Lady Eagles again in a battle, this time for third place. The Lady Buffs were given the nod with 62.94 percent of the vote compared to that for the Lady Eagles at 37.06 percent.
As for the boys teams, the MVHS Buffs were also slated to hit the hardwood in Casper. The top place in this class at the state tournament, according to the fans, went to the Worland with a 51.93 percent of the votes over Lander at 48.07. This follows how the season played out with Worland posting the best ranking most of the season, but losing the first place seed at the regional tournament to Lander due to a coin toss.
The Big Piney Punchers earned enough votes for the rankings for the state tournament to be named in third place,
