MVHS Lady Buffs rock/roll over Evanston Lady Red Devils

Posted

EVANSTON — The MVHS Lady Buffs romped and stomped the Lady Red Devils of Evanston last week on Friday to close out their season play before the Christmas and New Year break.

What a way to move into the break, handing the 4A Lady Red Devils a huge loss, 50-9. Once the Lady Buffs stepped on the hardwood, they never looked back and held the Lady Red Devils to a single digit score for the game,

The next step is for the MVHS Lady Buffs to compete at the Rawlins tournament Jan. 5-6. At this point, the Lady Buffs have only taken one clipping, which was at one of the Flaming Gorge tournament. The rest of their games have gone into the win column.

Prior to the game at Evanston, head coach Jessica Moretti had said, the team “…focus on what we need to do better as a team.” She said the team works on defense and works to implement good fast breaks to slow their opponents down.

As soon as the Lady Buffs stepped on the hardwood last week, McKinlee Covolo, junior, banked in a shot to give the Lady Buffs the first score of the game. This was soon followed by a pass from Mylie Micheli to Charlee Porter who nailed a basket for two more points. Covolo added two more giving the Lady Buffs an eight point lead as they held Evanston from sinking any points. Near the mid point mark of the first quarter, Evanston nailed a 3-pointer and was on the scoreboard. A trip to the bonus line and hitting one-of-two raised the Lady Red Devils score to four. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Buffalos led by six, 10-4.

The second quarter was pretty much a repeat of the first. The Lady Buffs cruised to the basket and added some points, while the Lady Red Devils were pointless. Trips to the bonus line helped the Lady Buffs some, but their shots from the line didn’t often click. They did have a 12 point lead at the half 17-5 as they added seven points to their score and held Evanston to one-point in the second quarter.

Back on the hardwood in the second half, Covolo put up a basket as the half started, making her eighth point of the game. Addison Hickey grabbed a rebound and nailed a basket to raise the Lady Buffs score to 21. Kate Walker stepped up and added one-of-two from the line, and Hickey added two more as the Lady Buffs stretched their lead. Micheli stole the ball and aced a layup. Porter, Hickey and McKayla Lym added to the action. The Lady Buffs added 23 points to their score in the third quarter, while they stopped the Lady Red Devils from adding any points to their score. The score at the end of the third quarter was 40-5.

Evanston took a trip to the bonus line at the start of the fourth quarter, sinking one-of-two, to raise their score to six. Abby Jo Wells, freshman, nailed a three-pointer for the Lady Buffs and they Lady Buffs were off again putting up points. Kodi Allred, junior, added one from the bonus line. Evanston put up a 3-pointer with 1:28 left in the game raising their score to nine. The final score was 50-9. Mountain View defense had held Evanston to a single digit score
