MVHS’ Coach G inducted into Wyoming Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Posted

CASPER — MVHS’ Coach G joined a select group of statewide coaches last Friday, July 21, when he was one of four inducted into the Wyoming Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.

Coach G, Tim Gonzales, retired from the MVHS district this year after devoting a lifetime of coaching experiences to the district. He also received a plague for 30 years of coaching at the induction ceremony, and as Gonzales said Tuesday afternoon with a laugh, he was also recognized for his “longevity” as a coach.

He started teaching in the MV district in 1968. Not originally part of the coaching staff, he volunteered and assisted with the middle school wrestling program. From there, his coaching career took off and he coached a multitude of sports for Mountain View.

Current plans for Gonzales and his wife, Brenda, are to move to Spearfish S.D., to be closer to their kids and grandkids. Gonzalesexpressed a deep thanks to the coaches with whom he has worked with during his tenure in Mountain View. In addition, he said he wanted to thank the coaches and athletes over the years. He repeatedly talked about the quality of coaches whom he had worked under in Mountain View. He also served as the head coach for wrestling and football.

This is the second time Gonzales has received an honor from the Wyoming Coaches Association as he was tapped as an assistant track and field coach of the year in 2015.

This time, as the last time, Gonzales was profuse in his praise of his fellow coaches in the Mountain View district.

“I guess it (the award) was a combination of the success we have had in Mountain View for coaching. It was not specific for one sport,” Gonzales said Tuesday.
